A huge selection of add-on sounds going back nearly 20 years is available, including lots of off the wall stuff from more out-there big-name producers. To me the sound character is more raw and “straight off the mic” than some of the others, many of which have that “ready to mix” sound, so if you want to bypass the fancy-shmancy processed sound and get right down to the raw signals this is worth looking at.

Not nearly as insane to use as Superior Drummer 3 but quite capable and sounds very good. The sound character seems to lean more towards the powerful modern rock spectrum, and is a bit more polished and processed than Addictive or BFD3.

Back in the era of Slate’s Kontakt libraries it was the fastest way to get that Nirvana type of powerful, fat sound. Instead of loading individual sounds within a single master kit, you load up kits like “Seventies Drummer” and “Eighties Drummer” to get access to a single style of kit with maybe the option to choose from two sets of drums and an extra two snares or so.

They are pre-mixed very well but you still have control over individual mic positions and processing within the UI. I’ve used these when I was in a big hurry and didn’t want to deal with BFD3, and was always pleasantly surprised at how quick it was to work with and how good the end results sounded.

So if you don’t already have “Full Kontakt” which is included in Komplete then that’s another expense. But having the full version of Kontakt means you can load zillions of cheap and free Kontakt sounds out there, so it’s a great thing to have.

Then you’ll get a stupidly huge collection of synths like Massive, FM8, Absynth, etc. You do have to convert the drummer regions to midi though. To work with Drummer, you add a Drummer track to the project. A Drummer track is similar to a software instrument track, but it contains only Drummer regions , rather than MIDI regions.

Both track and region parameters can be edited in the Drummer Editor. In the Logic Pro toolbar, lick the Add Tracks button. A Drummer track is added, along with one 8- bar region. The Library opens, and a default patch is loaded to the track. The farther right you place the puck, the more complex the sound becomes; the higher you place the puck, the louder the sound plays.

For Tambourine, Shaker, and Handclap: Click an instrument, then drag the Percussion slider or choose an increment. For Cymbals, Toms, and Hi-Hat: Click a kit piece, then drag the kit piece slider or choose an increment.
